Origins

The Busan Abandoned Pet Sanctuary originated when four animal lovers joined together to create a permanent home for abandoned pets in Busan. The South Korean government did not (and still doesn’t) have any type of significant and enforceable animal protection laws, limited only to providing animal pounds that have no adoption programs, and simply provide swift euthanizing for all collected strays.

We took over caring for 125 dogs that were abandoned by a hoarder who had no knowledge of how to turn what he had into an actual dog shelter. The dogs lived cramped in small cages, were mostly terrified of humans, and lived in filth and disease.

It took us two years to turn that mess into something that now starts to resemble a proper dog sanctuary.  We have the dogs moved into large cages, organized by packs, and the live in clean, dry houses. We also provide basic health care and vaccinations, along with neutering all the males.
